Kotohira is small town in Shikoku, and is famous for its shrines and old Kabuki theatre.
The Kabuki theatre origins from 1835, and is one of the oldest in Japan. You can go back stage and look at all the traditional setup. If you try to get a ticket, buy the “cheap” tickets which allow you to sit on a bench in facing the stage. If you are capable of sitting on a very small space on the floor, then the expensive tickets closest to the stage may be better.
If you like to climb the stairs, visiting the shrines will give you a lot of exercise. After climbing 2000 steps, you will reach the main shrine, Konpira-san.
